The secret of Duelling Pianos in the UK
Before we dive into the secrets of duelling pianos i want to share with you my experience how i discovered this amazing concept. Where an interactive live request band keeps the audience on the danceloor all night with there favourite songs.
What is dueling pianos
About 10 years ago when I was still living in the Netherlands.
I’ve heart about a new club opening in my hometown (Tilburg) where the guests request there favourite songs to 2 duelling piano players who perform alongside a band.
Me as young just graduated singer of course had to check this out, how can these singing pianists know all these songs, and perform them right there and them on the spot…sounds impossible as i had to sit at home for days to learn 1 song!
A found a friend to go with and there I was, in this night club with a big stage in the middle where 2 singing pianists took requests from singing and dancing guests. It was something I’ve never seen before in my life.
How can these musicians perform all these songs from the top off there brain, whilst entertaining, making people sing and keeping the dance-floor full.
Not only the guests had the most fun, the musicians where jumping and singing sometimes even ON the pianos!
I felt like this was my life calling, what a better way to spread my love for music performing peoples favourite songs and being the centre of the party.
This is where I met my now husband , singing pianist an co-owner of that same incredible Duelling Piano Club. It was melt to be, a puzzle with pieces falling together kinda romance Anyways the romance aside 😛 !

Hire an interactive live request band for your wedding or event, and keep your guests on the dance floor with their favourite songs.
So i hear you ask.. what is the secret of dueling pianos!
It’s almost scientific, people can only remember so much information at a time, there memories get judged by events happening around them, earlier that day or event week.
This is why people mostly ask for the same songs at a similar kind of event.
For instant, when they heart a song at a wedding from friends last week and they remember there friend started break dancing to it, they have a very memorable memory of it and will be most likely ask for that specific song.
But more common is songs they listen to on a daily basis on the radio or at the weekend at a pub or club.
And guess what radio’s and clubs play the same 100 songs on repeat. The only thing which switches it up is new songs going viral or old songs being reused in commercials on the radio or tv.
You see were i am getting at, i very soon learned this and started practising the greatest hits of all time and started the job when i learned about 50 songs from the top of my head.
I have to say it was still quite hard because there were some limitations with me knowing only 50 songs back than but you learn fast on the job, you find out which songs partying guests ask for the most, and not less important which songs will go down amazing and flop hard.
Not all songs must be played at 1 o clock in the morning even though one person in the audience thinks otherwise:P
Just imagine you are enjoying yourself dancing to uptown funk and the band starts playing tears in heaven…. A beautiful song i agree … but you can probably imagine the audience response….lol
Duelling pianos in the UK
After doing the job for about 5 years me and my partner decided to make our move to London. There is something exiting about the music scene in the UK. The variety of music and song requests are much larger than in the Netherlands and other countries we toured at.
But it also meant i had to now learn a lot more and different songs !! Guess what i never even heard of mr Brightside !! Apparently it never even broke the chards in the Netherlands, and in the UK i can’t imagine a night without it.
When we moved to London we didn’t had any connections or work yet, it was a scary but exiting.
We both stranded at The Piano Works a night club in London with 2 singing pianist and a band taking requests from the audience.
The partners must have felt the same excitement as I did those years ago , it just was meant to be!

Now with 2 clubs open in Farringdon and West end they are a raging success being one of the top going out venues on design my night. It’s a real club vibe from modern songs to bringing people together with classic sing alongs.
Me and my Husband still love working there, alongside running our independent entertainment company with our own Duelling Piano show of course both as the singing pianists.
The Royal piano show is one of Uk’s leading dueling piano show and is made up by 2 talented singing pianists and backed up by a experienced full band. Besides taking live song requests duelling pianos is a highly entertaining concept where the singing pianists really involve the crowed.

Live request band for all ages
Every wedding and or party is different, no couple or guest is the same and that is what makes this concept so unique, and all the musicians so incredibly talented. We have to adapt and think fast which creates the most unique moments on stage.
But what we love to do most is creating that magical vibe on stage at somebodies special day from weddings to corporate events.
What i think this blog shows most is that music really brings people together, for just one night or even the rest of there lives.
Science or not we bring those memories alive and that makes me so happy that i can do that every weekend.
